Why Zihuatanejo?

Zihuatanejo’s name comes from the Nahuatl word Cihuatlan, meaning “land of women.” According to legend, this was once a sanctuary for priestesses, healers, and seekers — women who came to the sea to restore their strength.

Protected by a goddess of the ocean, this land was blessed with abundance, marine life, and deep spiritual energy. The Sea Turtle — a symbol of grace, strength, and ancient wisdom — swim these waters.

The shape of this land itself resembles this marine creature, who, like women, carries the world on its back. The sea turtle lives between worlds—land and sea—just as women move between the worlds of work and motherhood, duty and desire.

Here, women feel held — by the sea, the Earth, and the spirit of this land.
